Boston’s AI Traffic Solution Reduces Stop-and-Go by 50%

Boston’s pilot program using the AI platform Green Light has led to a significant reduction in stop-and-go traffic at key intersections, with some areas seeing improvements of over 50%, according to a report in Cities Today.
Urban Tech: The AI platform allows the city to adjust signal timing more frequently and responsively, based on real-time traffic data. This approach offers a low-barrier way to optimize traffic flow without needing extensive infrastructure changes.
By implementing AI-driven recommendations, Boston not only reduced traffic congestion but also contributed to lowering emissions, a benefit observed in cities worldwide that have adopted similar technology.
Boston plans to continue leveraging Green Light, especially for the 300 signalized intersections not directly connected to the city’s Traffic Management Center, helping further streamline traffic flow across the city.
